This lithographic poster was print at the Atelier Mourlot in Paris in 1973 to promote an exhibition of Balthus's works at the Musée Cantini - Marseille for the summer months of July, August and September that year.
Balthus's style is primarily classical. His work shows numerous influences, and although his technique and compositions were inspired by pre-Renaissance painters, there are also influences by contemporary surrealists like de Chirico. Balthus was one of the few living artists to be represented in the Louvre, when his painting The Children (1937) was acquired from the private collection of Pablo Picasso.
