Collection: Jean Effel
Effel was born in Paris and was educated in art, music and philosophy, despite his father’s efforts to get him to take of the family merchant trade. Often drawing for the French newspaper l’Humanité and illustrating various publications, the cartoon cycle The Creation of the World is considered to be his greatest work and is comprised of five books. Effel’s paintings are easily readable and relatable, bringing a fresh, humorous and novel take on more serious subjects. His work is marked by his curly signature, often accompanied with a little daisy on the lower right corner revealing his light hearted take on the world.
