Collection: Salvador Dali

(1904-1989) Spanish

After passing through phases of Cubism, futurism, and metaphysical painting, Dalí joined the surrealists in 1929, and his talent for self-publicity rapidly made him the most famous representative of the movement. Freudian theory underpins Dalí’s attempts to forge a formal and visual language capable of of rendering his dreams and hallucinations. These account for some of the iconic and now ubiquitous images through which Dalí achieved tremendous fame during his lifetime and beyond.
