Elijah Reuven-Rubin

(1893-1974) Israeli

Reuven-Rubin was a Romanian-born Israeli painter who served as Israel’s first ambassador to Romania and is celebrated as the pioneer of the Israeli art world. He regularly drew the countryside and the people who inhabited it, using his unique artistic vision to transform his observations into dreamy and fantastical scenes. Rubin used radiant, earthy colors and simple techniques, influenced by the works of Marc Chagall, to explore the biblical landscapes of his Israeli home and its folk history.
