This original lithograph by Bernard Cathelin was used twice as a poster. It was first chosen as the image to promote the publication of the book "Ten Haikï" (Japanese poems)in 1983. Several proofs printed at the time without text, were later reused for this small edition to promote an exhibition of Mourlot Lithographs in the town hall of Souillac-en-Quercy, France, in 1985. The subject, which is a green field of rice with a single pine tree, was inspired by a Haiku (poem) from the Japanes writer Shiki. Ed. 2000 + 500. There is also an edition of 175 signed and numbered lithographs on Arches paper and 25 signed and numbered on Angoumois paper, as well as 10 signed and numbered on Japan paper. Ref. Sauret #277.

Bernard Cathelin was a French painter known for his uniquely stylized abstractions of flowers, landscapes, and figures. Utilizing thick palette knife applications and rich colors, Cathelin produces a sense of light and corporeal form in his paintings. His works are in the collections of the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Spencer Museum of Art, among others.
