Classic Poster Paper - Good Condition A

A lithographic poster created for an exhibition of the work of Marc Chagall hosted at the Musée d'Art Moderne of Ceret, France, in 1968. It was reproduced by Mourlot Master Printer Charles Sorlier, supervised by Marc Chagall. This vibrant poster features a circus scene which is one of the artist's most recurring themes. Chagall always drew inspiration from the circus throughout his life. As a child in Russia, he had been fascinated by the travelling acrobats he saw at village fairs. After he moved to Paris, Ambroise Vollard regularly accompanied him to the circus, where he would sit in the audience and sketch. Ed. 2,000. Ref. Sorlier # 113.
