This original lithographic poster by Ben Shahn was created to promote the opening of the Atelier Mourlot branch in New York City on Bank street. Having migrated from Lithuania with his family to the United States, Shahn began his path to becoming an artist in New York, where he was first trained as a lithographer. It was fitting that such a venerable American artist would design this image of birds reminiscent of Picasso's peace dove to announce Mourlot's arrival in North America. With his intimate knowledge of lithography and a keen sense of humour, Ben Shahn became quickly one of the studio's favorite visitor.
