Dreams by Akira Kurosawa
Artist: Akira Kurosawa
Medium: Lithograph, 1990
Dimensions: 19 x 23 in, 48.3 x 58.4 cm
Inspired by his primary school arts teacher, the young Kurosawa first decided to become a painter. After attending art school, his work was exhibited in 1928 when ehe was only 18; however, he was never able to make a living with his art. As he began to perceive most of the proletarian movement as "putting unfulfilled political ideals directly onto the canvas," he lost his enthusiasm for the plastic arts. While becoming a world-renowned movie director, Kurosawa continued to paint and draw throughout his life.
